My daughter Ellyn was moving into her “big girl” bed at the age of a year and a half. When she was in her crib, she had been used to having me rock her crib to put her to sleep. With her moving to the bed, this ritual was transferred to gently rocking her bedpost to glide her to slumberland. After several difficult nights of getting her used to the new surroundings Ellyn, a bright, articulate and imaginative child, told me that she could not sleep because she thought there were “things in her closet and under her bed.” To satisfy her fear, we added the closet and the under-the-bed check to our nightly ritual.
As with all small children fighting the sandman, she expanded the adventure to include me singing, counting, and ultimately story-telling. She would have me crawl in next to her and tell her stories of my childhood, my life, and anything else I could concoct. One night I drew an imaginary circle on the bedsheet with my index finger and told her it was the magical doorway to Mattress Land and the home of the Mattress People. She was exhilarated at the possibilities and each night was a different adventure followed by her exhausted repose.
Ellyn’s youngest brother Joe, age one and a half, was moving to his bunk bed below his three year old brother John. Like his sister, Joe was having fitful nights during his transition. This is the true story as created and told in their own words, using names they chose. This was the night that Ellyn, John, and Joe became one… in Mattress Land.

A Secret Discovered... An Adventure Through Time... Thugs, chases through the streets of San Francisco, scientific discoveries, and other mysteries abound in this story.
Matt and Heather Townsend, orphaned when their bioscientist parents are killed in the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake, become wards of their great aunt Estelle. Her stately old house in the Marina District holds intrigue, and a secret. Fortunately, Matt discovers the secret on his thirteenth birthday, and not too soon. He was about to go stark raving mad with boredom.
Years earlier and unbeknownst to anyone, rumors of Jon and Josie Townsend’s secret research had enticed SafGen’s head of security to break into the head office in an attempt to steal the research papers. His goal was to sell the papers, confident that certain foreign regimes would pay handsomely for the exciting new discovery. Coming up empty-handed, he devises another plan to get his hands on the papers. Visit Author's Webpage
